From My Archive

Time: Jun/ Jul 1981

Place: Ferozpore

I was a Capt in 1/1 GR (The First Battalion of The First Gorkha Rifles). Married with one daughter.

I alongwith other officers received a dinner invitation from the CO (Commanding Officer), then Lt Col Ramesh Bhatia (Later retired as a Brigadier). I had preserved the invitation which I found today while shuffling through my old papers and I reproduce these below with my RSVPed note.

He wrote:-

On Saturday night with dim light

To Tiger’s den, lead all roads straight;

Come alone or come with your mate

But come you must and don’t hesitate.

Wear what you like and how you like

Be there you must, ride hike or bike,

To fill, spill, gossip and strive.

Be there sure as one bell tolls after eight on one less five.

To increase your calories with fare galore alright,

And have some fun in Tiger’s den on Saturday night.

RSVPed note dated 01 Jul 1981.

From: Leo’s Lair

We thank ye for kind invitation.

To carouse, tittle tattle, hog and flirtation,

Such gestures are rare in present day inflation,

Who will, therefore, resist the temptation?

We will find the road and the den,

And have noted we have to reach when.

Hope lights are not so dim,

Otherwise, you know, the husbands’ plight,

How it is on the Saturday night.
